While helping a group of hardworking women plant rice in rural northern Thailand I asked the cheerful, laughing women, “What do you do for fun?” “Plant rice” was the choral reply. Over ten years later I’ve begun to understand the wisdom of their single response. For these women, there was no distinction between work and play. They experienced life as recurring moments of a decision to enjoy their circumstances. The message to me: Life isn’t compartments.
The narrative non-fiction presented in PERSPECTIVES represents my personal views. Some are sure, others evolving, still others contemplative. These writings evolve from my existence that I understand now is not compartmentalized but shaped by my mosaic experiences with motherhood, formal study, professional work, and social observations. Much of the writing concerns children and families. These are my individual contributions to thoughtful, healthy efforts to solutions that “get it right”. Read, share, ponder…
