Join us for a staged reading of a new play, “Pretty.” Directed by Justin Lord. Featuring Marie Barrientos, Husani Blaze, Michael Chenevert, and Lorna Haughton. PRETTY, is inspired by the Oscar Wilde quote, “True friends stab you in the front.” In this play, stabbing with words and unkind acts is a typical family practice among mother Willa and adult twins Travis and Timothy. The assaults mask the pain they each feel as a result of struggles with issues related to complexion, and acceptance. Travis supports this family living on a marginalized economic edge. Mother Willa fairly copes with her mental illness and her unresolved memories of her past life in a segregated Black southern town. Timothy exploits daily the emotions and finances of the family. The apartment lights are turned off for non-payment of the electric bill. When the energy is restored the illusion of “pretty” is transparent.
