Harry Miller, acclaimed pianist will perform inspirational melodies beginning at 6:00 PM before the show on February 20, 2014.
Harry Miller is a NYC based jazz pianist and composer who leads his own group “The Satisfied Souls” in concert appearances and recordings. His most recent CD release, “Jazz Beauty Supply” (Inner Ear Records), was a top selling jazz release at the popular CDBaby.com website. Harry performs regularly with Rock and Roll Hall of Famer Little Anthony & The Imperials, and he also toured extensively in trumpeter Maynard Ferguson’s Big Bop Nouveau Band, with whom he performed over 100 concerts, and participated in numerous educational workshops.
As a freelance keyboardist on the New York City music scene, Miller’s performing experience has encompassed a wide variety of contexts, including jazz, rock, funk, r & b, reggae, west African, Indian devotional chanting, church organist, cruise ships, piano bars, weddings, theatrical productions, dance, and experimental groups. Miller has given over 2000 performances in his career in various settings.
Born and raised in St. Louis, Missouri, Harry studied briefly at Berklee College of Music in Boston and The Creative Music Studio in Woodstock, NY, and performed with his own band at Boston area venues. He finished his undergraduate music studies in 2011 at City College of New York in Harlem, where he graduated summa cum laude and phi beta kappa.
Miller has released four original recordings as a band leader: “Open House”, “Paradox Fossils”, “Live at the Museum” and “Jazz Beauty Supply”. He has performed at least once with musicians such as Greg Osby, Ralph Moore, Jean Toussaint, Mike Stern, Jeff “Tain” Watts, Jerome Harris, Arto Tuncboyacian, Slide Hampton, Ted Curson, Paul Motian, Phoebe Snow, Michael Urbaniak, Jeff Andrews, Cindy Blackman, DK Dyson, Allan Zavod, Jody Espina, Avi Bortnick, Terri Lyne Carrington, Ashford & Simpson, Quincy Jones, and BB Winans.
In addition to being the producer his own recordings, Harry acted as producer for two recordings of Native American Indian music: Louis Mofsie’s “Traditional Native American Songs and Music”, and The Silvercloud Singers “Pow Wow Songs”.
